I'm so happy

QuickImage Category LS 2006

As anybody who has been following this blog should already know, I LOVE working with Lotus Notes/Domino. As you also know, I was pretty bummed out after Lotusphere 2005 ended. My current employer has made the decision to switch to the dark side and migrate away from all things Lotus; which has given me a severe case of the blues. Granted, I have the opportunity to learn some really cool new (to me at least) stuff (ColdFusion running on LAMP, using Dreamweaver Studio MX); but the simple fact is I'm really, really going to miss working with Domino.

Well, it turns out the migration is going to end up taking a lot longer than had been originally estimated. My gut feeling is that the folks "at the top" will eventually change at least some of the migration plans. While I doubt that the move to Exchange will be a complete success; I also doubt that it will be stopped. We are going to Exchange for our mail. Period. However, I'm beginning to think that we may end up keeping Domino around for a while for some other stuff. Or perhaps I'm just being foolish.

Foolish or not, it appears that my boss agrees with me. As of last Thursday, I was officially registered for, and I'll be seeing most of your ugly faces at, Lotusphere 2006. WooHoo!

Gravatar Image1 - How similar our lives are Devin. Although, I will not be doing LAMP, we are going to Exchange and within 18 months, our application suite will be moved over to .NET using Sharepoint as the portal. In the meantime, I am taking our current Notes Client-based application and making it a pure Domino web app as we await the new .NET prototype. I view it as my last Domino "HOORAH" before I start on my MCSD. I think this calls for a conversation of the "Old Days" over a Spanky's Honey Brown or Christmas Ale (both are EXCELLENT). Whattaya think?

Gravatar Image2 - Sounds like a GREAT idea. However, we will need to consume something else, as I'm currently out of stock on everything (but I will be firing up the brew kettles this weekend). Nevertheless, we need to get together and chat soon. Give me a ring this week, ok?

Gravatar Image3 - Glad to see that you'll be back in Orlando this year. I'll be there too. I replied to your post on Turtle's site but I see my post disapeared into the great unknown.

I didn't think I'd make it back this year because we'd be deep into the CIS project and I wouldn't be able to go. Turns out Hurricane Katrina probably through a month delay into our process and that leaves me available end of January. So, I got the project manager's and my boss's okay to go ahead and register.

We made it through the storm okay. The east and west shore of Mobile Bay had a lot of damage and the causeway between Mobile and the Eastern Shore where I live was pretty devastated. My boss and our CFO both live on the water in Mobile and had damage, the CFO had 2 feet of water in his house, my boss is in a newer home that's built up and she had water right up to the front door.

Look forward to seeing you at the gonzo gathering and for drinks and karaoke at kimonos. Hope it will be a great 'sphere... can't match last year though... don't see myself winning another plasma TV.

Gravatar Image4 - CHUCK!!!!! I'm so glad you came through it ok. Just yesterday I was talking to my wife about you, and wondering how you made out. My cell phone bit the dust a couple of weeks back, so I've lost a bunch of #s (pretty much the entire LS "gang"). Send me an email with your contact info?

I'm really excited to be going, I think this is going to top last year. (I think you're right about the plasma TV though.)
