Spanky's Place

This doesn't really change much as far as my work is concerned. Although the threat of a looming contract end date is now gone, so there is much rejoicing on the home front.

Of course, this comes right on the tail of (well, not really on the tail -I found out on the morning of my flight to Lotusphere) the news that we are migrating to Exchange. This causes not rejoicing, but much gnashing of teeth (and quite a bit of bitching as well). The decision appears (as usual) to be completely political. I heard that the reason for the decision was because Domino wasn't SmartCard or X.509 compliant, and that when the evaluations were held (to which Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, and a few other vendors were invited to) that IBM didn't even show up. Which is, of course, absolute bullshit. I also heard (from an unnamed source from IBM while drinking heavily at Turtle's Gonzo party) that IBM/Lotus was informed of the decision and the "evaluations" after the fact, and wasn't even allowed to present a case. Which sounds to me to be much closer to the truth.

Anyway, the one nice thing about boneheaded management decisions is that they keep me entertained.

BTW - Congratulations to Tom for picking up the position (Joe's old one). If you know who I'm talking about, then you know what I'm talking about. If you don't have a clue, then you need to come to a few more parties conferences.

As far as blogs go, this testing is somewhat interesting. I think I'm going to continue to "test" for a few more weeks, and then I'm planning on moving over to DominoDeveloper.Net (hope MeLissa and Dan remember me).
