Rosh Hashanah - Happy New Year 5,768

Rosh Hashanah begins as sunset tonight.

Barukh atah Adonai, Elohaynu, melekh ha-olam
she-hecheeyanu v'keey'manu v'heegeeyanu la-z'man ha-zeh (Amein)

Blessed are you, Lord, our God, king of the universe
who has kept us alive, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this season (Amen)

Life is a gift. You appeared. You had nothing to do with it whatsoever. You had nothing to do with the color of your eyes, the color of your hair, the color of your skin, or how tall you were going to be. You stand with this gift of yourself. 1 - That's all fine. What, however, do you think about Obadiah Shoher's criticism pf Rosh Hashanah as aholiday that has nothing to do with New Year? Here, for example { Link }

2 - I don't think much of it at all. Whether Rosh Hashanah is Biblically (Torahcally?) correct is immaterial; the simple fact is that Rosh Hashanah is the traditional celebration of the New Year by God's chosen people.

The purpose of my post was to wish all (Jews and non-Jews alike) a happy and blessed New Year, nothing more.

While Obadiah Shoher's criticism(s) are somewhat interesting, they need to be taken in context, as they have no bearing whatsoever on my good wishes for all.

5 - New year or not, happiness and horn-blowing (literally) are an order from the Top. But then it wouldn't really be an online community if there were no poopers at the party, would it?
